Corissa is the owner of Milspo Made, a company that creates custom military pendant necklaces and earrings. She wanted custom necklaces to represent her husbands military branch for herself and couldn’t find what she was looking for… so she decided to do something big and created her own shop! Her husband is in the Air Force and they are stationed in Los Angeles in El Segundo, CA.

What made you decide this career path? I decided to fulfill a need for minimal, military jewelry that I have been searching for since my husband entered the military.

and underestimate what they can do in a year.”

Where have you lived and what has been your favorite base so far? We are both from West Michigan, and this is our first base.
What is the biggest challenge of being a military spouse and pursuing your career? The unsteadiness of it all: not having a permanent ‘office space’ or permanent address. Will I have enough room in our next home for an office? Will my supplies get lost during our PCS move? Do I have to file as a business in the next state we live in? If my husband gets deployed, where will I run the business from? These are all questions that go through my head constantly!
What are your other hobbies? Perusing record stores, running my Labrabull, paranormal investigations, hiking to a new swimming hole, and dancing whenever I get the chance.
What are some benefits of being a military spouse as a business owner? Constant change and defeats in military life gives you thick skin. The learned resiliency of this lifestyle prepares you for the ups and downs of business.

If you could, what advice would you give yourself when you first started your business? Plan ahead. People overestimate what they can do in a day, and underestimate what they can do in a year.
